Company Mascot Illustration

A character to help make a brand recognisable

I was commissioned to design a main character—mascot—for Empire Digital Print, a company looking to establish a friendly, versatile figure to use across both digital and print marketing materials. The key objectives were to create a likable character with a flat, vector-based style that embodied a Roman theme, aligning with the company’s name, "Empire."

Although this was a playful illustration project, a structured process was essential to ensure the client received a well-crafted, refined result. I began with thorough research to understand the client’s vision and existing market trends. Then, I explored numerous sketches to experiment with different concepts (see sketches below). This phase is crucial, as translating an idea from imagination to paper can often shift its feel. Once the initial ideas were sketched out, I worked closely with the client to refine the character’s look, iterating through rounds of feedback to achieve the desired personality and style. The character’s appearance evolved through further detailing, final coloring, and adjustments in texture to enhance its appeal.

The character turnaround, which serves as a blueprint, was developed to show the mascot from all angles. This not only ensures consistency when placing the character in different contexts but also acts as a visual guide to maintain brand cohesion over time. Finally, I created various poses and scenarios for the character, adding a layer of creativity and personality to the mascot, bringing it to life across Empire Digital Print’s marketing materials.
